About
This charming Barrio is where Buenos Aires was originally founded in 1536. Late in the XIX century it became the home of many immigrants, mostly Italian, who lived in precarious conditions in houses called Conventillos. They used to paint this buildings with unused ship paint which wasn't enough to cover all of the surface so they ended up having multicolored facades. This is the appearance of La Boca nowadays and what attracts tourists.
This is where Tango was born and is famous for one of it's streets called Caminito. At La Boca you can find unique souvenirs at very low prices, leather, crafts, music, traditional sweets... you name it! There are many restaurants and some of them offer Tango shows.
It's also a point of interest for soccer fans as this is the home of the Boca Juniors team. The stadium, known as "La Bombonera" can be visited and has a souvenir shop with all sorts of goodies.
It is important to know this is a poor Barrio. You shouldn't wonder off away from the touristic site and it is best to visit in the morning and leave before evening.
How to get there
Bus 152 will take you right to Caminito street.
