Fraser Island dingo

Fraser is the world's largest sand island measuring 123 kilometres from tip to tip. Natural attractions include coloured sand cliffs, endless beaches, unspoiled vegetation and tangled rainforests. There is an abundance of animal and plant life to keep any naturalist busy for weeks!

Fish lovers will feel like they're in paradise, with the tailor season hot between August and September. Bushwalkers are spoiled for a choice of trails, and surfers will find plenty of waves to keep occupied. Lucky sightseers may even catch a glimpse of a migrating humpback whale.

Driving across the stretch by four-wheel driver is a great adventure.


Fraser is a World Heritage listed National Park and a permit is required to enter and camp. Visitors are advised to follow park regulations and codes.

Bring lots of insect repellent and stock up on first-aid kits as there are no resident doctors available.

Permits can be aquired locally at the Hervey Bay City Council, or at the Park Website.

Access: There are two main ferry access points to Fraser Island - from the south via Rainbow Beach (Inskip Point) and from the west via Hervey Bay.
