Santa Cruz is the largest department of the land-locked country Bolivia. It's capital, Santa Cruz de la Sierra is also the country's fastest growing city, home to people from other departments and neighboring countries.

Santa Cruz has something for everyone. From its beautiful valleys where the weather is chilly and the people are almost too friendly, to the hot and humid swamp region that borders Brazil.

People interested in hiking through Amboró National Park will be wondered by the vast number of species and the beauty of the park itself and surrounding scenery. Others who would rather travel northeast will find the Jesuit churches and ruins to marvel at, as well as the peaceful sunsets over pleasant hills. And other travelers can just stay in the capital and enjoy its nightlife and cultural activities, as well as quick trips to nearby towns to enjoy traditional meals and weekend food and music festivals.

All in all, even a week in Santa Cruz is too little time to enjoy the wonders of this amazing, bustling new metropolis!

Air: Santa Cruz de la Sierra has two airports, Viru Viru International Airport and El Trompillo Airport. Viru Viru reveives flights from several major airlines including American Airlines, TAM Mercosur, Aerolineas Argentinas, Copa Airlines, Varig and TACA, as well as all national airlines.
Several smaller cities have local airports that receive national airlines departing from El Trompillo airport.

Land: Santa Cruz de la Sierra has a modern bus and train terminal that receives buses from all neighboring departments and nations, especially from Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. Daily departures to most provincial capitals as well, bus and train.
