Lake Minnewanka, Alberta

About

Lake Minnewanka is yet another glacial lake within Banff National Park. I've put up a lot of glacial lakes on this site...How does one keep them apart? Well, I can differentiate this one based on size.

It's a large long lake, big enough to support a hydroelectric dam. As a result, you take a boat cruise, swim, dive, or hike in the area. Moreover, you can drive to multiple spots along the lake for a picnic.

Also color. Some glacial lakes are light blue (lake Louise). Some are a dark green blue (Lake O'Hara). Lake Minnewanka is a dark blue-green, but mostly silver as a result of its size and depth.

There's tons of hiking, mountains to climb, tributaries to follow, it's a lake that would provide plenty of entertainment for years. Except it's located inside a national park that's got even more!

How to get there

Off the TransCanadian Hwy (hwy 1) in Banff National Park. There's a large parking lot, from where you can take boat tours or hike deeper into the area.
