About
Got that? Ok. The McArthur Trail/Lake is one of the backcountry hikes. It's about 8km, with mild elevation gain, but you get to see some alpine lakes, and maybe grizzly bears.
When you follow the trail, first you pass a campground. Then eventually you come across Lake Mary Schaffer which was disgusting and brown in August, but also located within an alpine meadow. I think after this you pass by a wilderness corridor. As a result of geography, the wildlife is funneled through this meadow. Deer, migrating bears, I saw none of them...but then again it was the middle of the day.
Moving on Lake McArthur, I think you're presented with a choice, low ground, or take the high end sheer cliff face version of the trail. There's about 20ft of exposed cliff face. I don't recommend this version. But anyhow, after mild boulder scrambling, you get to Lake McArthur, an isolated alpine lake where you can have lunch, take a swim (cold), and then head back home!
