About

Mount Everest, also known as Sagarmatha in Nepalese, is every mountaineers dream. The famous trek offers beautiful sights of snow capped mountains, rest places, and friendly natives called sherpas.

Everest and Sagarmatha National Park
The Sagarmatha National Park located around Mount Everest is the highest in the world, mostly above 3000m. Other than Mount Everest, there are three other peaks above 8000 meters in elevation. The area is extremely beautiful in the summer. Sagarmatha National park is also famous for bird-watching, beautiful butterflies and some endangered species like black bear, yaks, and snow leopards. Trekkers will also find some beautiful and magnificent villages.

Getting to Mount Everest starts from Namache Bazaar in Nepal, which serves as a starting point. The Bazaar is famous for traditional Tibetian handicrafts and Sherpa dishes.

Everest from the Air
The Everest region is officially called Khumbu, and is situated at the Nepalese side of Mount Everest. Visitors who want to view the great mountain without the pain of ascending it can board domestic flights from Kathmandu to Mount Everest. These special flights cost only about $100 per passenger.

Accomodation
There are numerous accommodations in the area, including lodges and tent camps.

Language
The local Sherpas understand some English so communication will not be a problem.

Safety
The Khumbu area is very safe for tourists. However, trekking and climbing is dangerous business. Because of the higher altitudes, the weather is difficult to predict. Also, altitude sickness is a potential problem for some tourists.

Climbing Mount Everest is not an easy task as only around seven hundred lucky mountaineers have made it and rest thousands have tried and failed.
