About

Home to artists and small cafes, Montmartre is also the site of the grand Sacre Coeur basilica and the Moulin Rouge cabaret show. The city sits on a hill overlooking Paris and still keeps a subtle and unique atmosphere despite tourists.

The Sacre Coeur is a holy place and a flagship of Catholic devotion to the Holy Virgin in Paris. The name "Sacre Coeur" is said to be derived from "Mount of Mars". It is built of travertine stones, which exudes calcite when it rains acting as a natural bleach to keep the building white. It is the highest point in Paris, so you'll find some great views of the city.

You'll also find here the popular cabaret club Moulin Rouge, the spiritual birthplace of the can-can dance. Today the Moulin Rouge is a tourist destination, offering musical dance entertainment for adult visitors from around the world. It is in walking distance of the area.
