About

Iconic and grandiose, Notre Dame cathedral has been a part of French history since 1163. The name literally means "Our Lady of Paris" in French. During the 19th century, officials actually wanted to tear down the cathedral but the novel Hunchback of Notre Dame helped raise awareness and save the cathedral.

Visitors can actually ascend the cathedral for a beautiful view of Paris and the Eiffel Tower nearby. You will also see the famous gargoyles, perched on the facades. You can also get a view of The Spire, a gothic spike in the middle of the cathedral designed by Viollet le Duc in the 19th century during restorations.

Don't miss! You can go up the Cathedral. The entrance is on the outside of the cathedral around the building. You must walk up 387 steps to the top.

There are two rose windows (West and South), with the Southern one being bigger at 13m depicting Christ.
