About

The Champs-Elysees is Paris' upscale and fashionable shopping street, full of tourists and high-class cafes, boutqiues, restaurants, and cinemas. You might not buy anything here except for an expensive cup of coffee, but it is still a fun walk and great for people watching.

The Champs-Elysees began in 1667, known as the "triumphal way" since Napoleon's homecoming. The streets are lined with trees, creating a royal view through to Tuileries. The street leads to the Arc de Triomphe.

The Champs-Elysées is used for all the major celebrations. This is where Parisians celebrate New Year's Eve and where the military parades are held on the 14th of July (Bastille Day).

The name is French for Elysian Fields, the place of the blessed dead in Greek mythology.
