About

Home to the Mona Lisa, and the most visited museum in the world. The Louvre itself began as a fortress and was rebuilt several times as a royal residence, and then into a royal museum. As such, the interior decorations are as splendid as the art pieces held within.

Allow yourself ample time to visit the exhibits. If you arrive early, you can have some fun joining the crowds in a mad dash to find the Mona Lisa -- it is located deep in the middle of the museum, behind bullet proof windows.

Highlights of the museum include:
Mona Lisa - The most famous painting in the world, by Leonardo da Vinci.
Venus de Milo - One of the most famous sculptures, the epitome of beauty.
Mercury and Psyche - An absolutely beautiful and elegant sculpture of angel Mercury holding Psyche.
Slaves - A sculpture by famed sculptor Michelangelo.
Winged Victory of Samothrace - A famous angel statue, originally part of a boat.
The French Crown Jewels - coronation crowns, scepters, and swords of Louis XV and Napoleon.

There's a lot of beautiful art, so allow yourself 3 hours to appreciate the museum.

The Louvre is adjacent to the Tuileries Gardens so take a stroll through there while you're in the area. The gardens have more statues and are a beautiful and pleasant walk.
