Beautiful little resort town between Nice and Monaco. It's really only a resort town, so it caters completely to French tourists. It's not overtly commercialized though, and even on a holiday weekend not completely flooded with tourists. You could spend all day wandering the town and relaxing on the beach, there's no need for other historical sights.

The beach is FREE, the water warm, and the nearby cafes serve decent food. The town itself has a decidedly southern character, with shops hidden in narrow alleys and windowboxes full of flowers above.

The best part, besides the FREE NICE PUBLIC BEACH, is the fact that the train station literally lets you off at the beach so you don't get lost!

How to get there

Either take the public bus from Nice and watch the stops for Villefranche, or take the train which goes directly to Villefranche.
