About

Fregate – an island of outstanding beauty with giant granite boulders from the powdery white sand of seven beaches, protected by granite barriers. Fregate is secluded, but not out of this world. It is precious, but not beyond our means. It is fragile, but not untouchable. Surely, a fantastic get away!

Frégate is a world of its own. The first settlers treated it as a living storehouse, only for it to be looted later by the Europeans, while their imported animals posed a huge threat for the endemic flora & fauna. Today, after many years of joint effort, Frégate is truly a diamond amidst the beauty of the Seychelles. It is one of the last places on earth that deserves the name 'paradise'.

Frégate Island is home to some of the world's rarest flora & fauna. A total of 14 bird species are resident and breeding on Frégate including the magpie robin, down listed from 'critically endangered' in 2005 largely as a result of the island's conservation actions. Frégate is also home to a wild herd of more than 400 Aldabra Giant Tortoises, one of only three wild-roaming populations left in the Seychelles. Lucky visitors may even witness a turtle laying her eggs in the sand, or the spectacle of up to 60 newly hatched baby turtles disappearing into the Indian Ocean at full moon. The Hawksbill turtle and Green turtle, both critically endangered, are also frequent visitors to the shores of the island for nesting and egg-laying.

Frégate Island offers a host of activities on, in and under the water. There are two freshwater pools and seven beaches - one of which, Anse Victorin, is renowned as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Discover another world while snorkeling, explore the ocean aboard a hobie cat or kayak, go game fishing aboard the island's launches, Fregate Bird and Little Fregate or take a boat trip to explore a remote island.

For those who prefer to stay ashore there is a fully equipped gym and an extensive library. Guests can also climb Mount Signal, with a summit of 125 metres, or enjoy a bird's-eye view of the Seychelles aboard a helicopter or a small aircraft.

Frégate's Cast Away Club keeps younger guests entertained with outdoor activities, crafts and cookery that immerse them in their own tropical island fantasy.

How to get there

The island is serviced by boats. There are trips daily which could be arranged in the local town.
