UNESCO declared Toy Train to Shimla as a world heritage and it is one of the galvanizing experiences a tourist can have, passing through the breathtaking landscaping through snow-clad Himalayas to Shimla.

This railway trek was constructed after fifty years, and is one of the most unique railroad treks in the world. British viceroy, Lord Curzon In 1903, inaugurated this train.

This journey offers many panoramic views of the valleys and picturesque stations on the way. This route is about ninety-six kilometers in length and has 103 tunnels, 968 bridges, approx 900 curves, and 20 stations.

This train can accommodate 200 passengers at a time accommodated with a 700 horsepower engine. It runs at an average speed of 25-30 km/ hour. It takes around five hours to reach Shimla from Kalka.

If you are visiting Shimla or Himachal Pradesh then this is a necessary visit for you. Just relax and be ready to enjoy the most vibrant colors of nature and beauty.


How to get there

Nearest airport is in Chandigarh and Kalka is just 30 km away from here. You can hire a taxi of bus from Delhi or Chandigarh. You can board a train to Kalka (Kalka Express) from Delhi, taking around five hours.
