About

Iceland is not only closer than you think, but far different than you ever imagined. Where else can you witness such marvels of Mother Nature as a tremendous icecap and several glaciers, spouting geysers and steaming solfataras, volcanoes (hopefully dormant), raging rivers and magnificent waterfalls, a multitude of birds, cavorting whales just offshore and many other surprises. Summers are surprisingly warm and winters not as cold as you might expect. Regardless of when you visit, be assured that the warmth shown by Icelanders, their desire to share their culture and the efforts made to make your stay as pleasant as possible will, like the spectacular landscape, never be forgotten.

Fun things to do:
Iceland is a country where you can see and do things you can’t elsewhere. It’s hard to think of another place where you can play golf, climb a glacier and fish for salmon all in the same day! The country has many activities for all ages and abilities and you can challenge yourself as much or as little as you want. There are always specially trained people on hand to help you if you are a beginner at things like sea kayaking or white water rafting. And there’s just as much to do in winter!

Where to stay:
Whether it’s sleeping between the finest linen sheets in a four-star hotel or watching the northern lights from an outdoor “hot pot” by your summerhouse or campsite, Iceland has accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets. While you can find places to stay year-round, it is a good idea to book ahead during the busy summer months.

How to get there

A number of airlines offer regular flights to Iceland from all over the world. These are for example:

Iceland air is the main airline with the most frequent flights, offering daily flights both from Europe and USA in addition to three flights per day to London, Heathrow and Copenhagen, Denmark. Normal fairs with taxes are approximately 20-30,000 ISK from Europe and 40-60,000 ISK from USA. More information available on www.icelandair.com

Transportation from the Airport:

By bus:

A flybus leaves the airport terminal in connection to every flight towards downtown Reykjavík. All busses go to the Reykjavik bus terminal, but some of them have drop-offs at hotels as well. Just ask the driver if he can drop you off at your hotel. The fair is 1100 ISK and tickets can be purchased in the arrival terminal or from the bus drivers. For more information see http://www.flybus.is/

By taxi:

You can also get to town by taxi. Taxis wait outside the arrival terminal along with the busses. This is a more expensive option, but if traveling with 2-3 traveling partners this can be a comfortable, fast and easy way to get to town.
