Charminar - The Four Minarets Marvel, is an important landmark and an historical monument in the city of Hyderabad. The Charminar was constructed in 1591 AD by the Golconda king Quli Qutub Shah.

Hyderabad is the capital city of the state of Andhra Pradesh. Charminar is located in the heart of Hyderabad. The city of Hyderabad is rich in historical monuments, gardens and palaces and the city is well known for its hospitality and cosmopolitan life.

Charminar derives its name from its four minarets. The monument is known for its intricate and delicate architecture and magnificent structure. Charminar is the prime tourist destination of any visitor to Hyderabad. The words Charminar and Hyderabad are used synonymously. Hyderabad is also famous for its culinary delights like Biryani, Haleem and other Mughalai dishes.

The city of Hyderabad has several tourist sites like Golconda Fort, Salarjung Museum, Qutub Shahi Tombs, Birla Mandir, NTR Gardens, Birla Planetarium, Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly and Ramoji Film City.

The weather is dry most of the year except during the rainy season which lasts from June to September.

Hyderabad is also famous for its precious pearls and bangles. The market surrounding the historical monument is known as Lad Bazar is famous for bangles. Hyderabad is also referred to as the city of pearls.

The city of Hyderabad has a number of parks like Public Gardens, Lumbini Gardens, NTR Gardens, Nehru Zoological Park, Indira Park, Sanjivayya Park, KBR Park, and Vengal Rao Park.

The neat and clean roads, tourist friendly people, decent accommodation, historical monuments make Hyderabad a must visit city for any tourist.


How to get there

Hyderabad is the capital city of Andhra Pradesh. The city of Hyderabad is well connected by rail, road and air.

The airport is situated at Shamshabad which is about 20 Kms from Charminar. The nearest railway station is Hyderabad Railway Station popularly known as Nampally Railway Station is located 2 Kms away from Charminar.

The Bus station is situated at Imlibun (Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station) which is just one kilometer away from the historic Charminar.

Autos (3 wheelers) are the popular form of private transport in the city of Hyderabad. The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation runs the public transport in Hyderabad. Private taxis can also be engaged to reach tourist destinations in the city.
