About

Kaziranga National Park lies in the flood plains of the Brahmaputra River in Assam. The riverine habitat consists primarily of dense grasslands interspersed with open forests. Over three-quarters of the area is submerged annually by the flood waters of the Brahmaputra. The park contains about 15 species of India's threatened mammals, including the largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses in the world. The area, originally established as a reserved forest in 1908, was declared a national park in 1974, and was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1985.

By Air:
Reaching Kaziranga by air transport is the most well-liked means of travel as the nearest airport here is Jorhat that offers regular flights to Kolkata on Indian airlines. Kolkata is the major airport that offers connection to the other towns of India and abroad as well.

By Rail:
The nearest railway station to Kaziranga is Furkating which is well-connected to Guwahati on the broad gauge line. The trains that connect this place are Brahmaputra Express to Delhi and Kamrup Express to Howrah (Kolkata). There is also the facility of an Intercity Express train that interlinks Furkating with the towns of Dibrugarh and Guwahati on a daily basis.

By Road:
The nearest National Highway to this park is NH-37. Kaziranga is located at a distance of 217 km from Guwahati, at a distance of 96 km from Jorhat and at a distance of 75 km from Furkating.
