Paloem Beach

Marvellous look of Paloem Beach

Palolem is a beach in South Goa, India. Palolem Beach is within 2 kilometres from the market town of Chaudi, which is about one hour's drive from the coastal town of Karwar in Karnataka and about 40 minutes from Margao (Main city in South Goa).The beach is largely unspoiled and is inhabited by both local fishermen and by foreign tourists who live in shacks along the shore. It is about one mile (2km) long and is crescent-shaped - one can view the whole beach from either end. Both ends of the beach consist of rocks jutting out into the sea. The depth of the sea increases gradually, it being shallowest at the northern ends of the beach, making it safe for average swimmers, and the currents are not fast. However, there is a high chance of encounters with jellyfish.

The beach is featured as the Indian residence of Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) in the film The Bourne Supremacy (2004). The initial footage in the movie gives a good idea of the natural beauty of the beach - the distinctive tree covered rocks at one end (known locally as Green Island - to which tours are run) and beach shacks.


By Air:
Dabolim Airport is about 65 km from Palolem and Agonda. Around an hour and a half away by road. Several airlines fly to Goa from other Indian cities: Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines, Go Air, SpiceJet, Air Deccan, IndiGo.

By road:
Panaji is about 2 hours away from Palolem and Agonda by road.
Madgaon is about 45 minutes away from Palolem and Agonda by road.

By train:
Slow trains stop at Canacona Station - a few minutes away from Palolem and about 15 minutes from Agonda . Fast trains stop at Madgaon.

Directions to Chattai Palolem
On the one and only road that leads toward Palolem Beach , take the first main left at Cleopatra restaurant. Then, almost immediately take a right. Follow the road almost till the end and turn left into the mud lane (opposite Café del Sol.) There are Chattai signboards at all these turns. Nearby landmarks are Alpha Bar and Bhakti Kutir.

If you walk down Palolem beach towards to the Southern end beach, take a left at the big rock and follow the tiny creek for about a minute - and you can't miss Chattai on your right.

Directions to Chattai Agonda
Turn right at Agonda Church which is on the only road parallel to the beach. Go down almost till the end. Go past ‘Forget Me Not' and ‘ Sandy Feet'. Chattai is on your left.

If you walk down Agonda Beach towards the Northern end, Chattai is on your right, about 20m from the sea.
