Sunderbans, lying on the lower end of the Gangetic West Bengal, is a mystic land and that such a land exists in such close proximity to Kolkata, is a revelation. Mainly known in the world environmental circles for its endangered Royal Bengal Tigers, Sunderbans claim to fame began when it was notified as a world heritage site by UNESCO. This erstwhile delta featuring groovy mangrove forests everywhere is an ideal location to spend a weekend. If you are an avid bird lover, travel to Sajnekhali which is a bird watcher’s paradise. You can catch a glimpse of these airborne creatures perched atop the different trees here in the shelter of the mangroves. Birds in Sunderbans gives a fresh lease of life to these jungles where fear is the uniting factor amongst men and animals alike.
How to get there

Some of the exquisite species of animals that are found in Sunderbans are Royal Bengal Tiger, Estuarian Crocodile, Olive Ridley Turtle, Ground Turtle and Gangetic Dolphins; they dwell in deltaic Sunderban bent by the Ganga and the Brahmaputra. They are called endangered species for they are under the threat of extinction.
But the waterways are also favorable and can reach you to your destination in a very short span of time. By riverine waterways one can access the Sunderban delta. Jambudeep, Namkhana are the few places that are linked by waterways.
