Hemkunt Sahib is located at an elevation of 4330 Meters above sea levels and covered with snow all the year round. Hemkunt sahib is known for its trekking and holy pilgrimage shrine, “Hemkunt Gurudwara”. Hemkunt parvat, which includes seven snow-clad mountains, offers one of the best views in India. There is a lake close to sacred Hemkunt sahib and it is believed that the tenth guru of Sikhs has meditated on the banks of this lake.

This trek starts from Govindghat. From Govindghat, you can hire or purchase necessary tools and food according to the requirement of trek. Alternatively, you can hire a guide as well with a bare minimum price.

The trek to Hemkunt Sahib is about 19 Km from Govindghat. The main attractions of this trek are pine forests, different varieties of flora and fauna and beautiful views of Laxman River (often called Ganga River), which flows through the gorges of mountains.

The only base camp is in Ghangharia that is 13 Km from Govindghat. The remaining 6 km trek from Ghangharia is dangerous; but you will see many fresh water streams, glaciers, and wild varieties of flowers. Views of the Himalayas are spectacular and majestic throughout the trek.

The main attractions in Hemkunt Sahib are-

Hemkunt Sahib Gurudwara- This gurudwara is a pilgrimage shrine for Sikhs.

Lok Pal Temple- Situated near to Hemkunt Gurudwara. Your journey is incomplete without visiting this temple.

Himalayas- A very beautiful view of Himalayas around Hemkunt Gurudwara gives a feeling of heaven.

• Carry heavy woolens and overcoat
• Best season to visit Hemkunt Sahib is between July to September
• There is no accommodation in Hemkunt Sahib
• If a visitor is a heart patient or suffering from asthma then he or she is advised to not go for this trek.
• Whether is very cold around Hemkunt.
• Carry First Aid Box as there is no medical facility available on this trek.


How to get there

Hemkunt Sahib can be reached by Joshimath via an18 km long Delhi – Badrinath Highway. The only option to reach Hemkunt Sahib is by road.

Nearest Airport : Jolly Grant is the nearest airport in Dehradun ( 335 km). Kingfisher, Spicejet, and Deccan are some major carriers to Dehradun.

Nearest Railway Station : Nearest railway station is Rishikesh, 293 km.

Road Connectivity : Hemkunt Sahib is well connected by road. You can reach Hemkunt Sahib via Rishikesh. Rishikesh can be reached by Air and Train (information mentioned above). Or Rishikesh can be reached even by road. The nearest cities are Kotdwara, Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, Ranikhet and then to Hemkunt sahib. All cities are well connected with Delhi and all major cities In India.
