About

Amanohashidate, literally meaning "sky bridge", is a thin strip of land connecting the two opposite sides of Miyazu Bay. It is known as one of Japan's three most beautiful sights. The strip is covered with pine trees and is a pleasant walk across at 3.3km.

Popular among visitors is to view the bridge backward from between one's legs, giving the illusion of a bridge reaching to the heavens.

How to get there

Amanohashidate can be reached by Kyoto via trains. Limited express trains take 2 hours and cost 4380 yen, while slower local trains cost 2240 yen but take 4 hours.
