About

Fushimi Inari is arguably one of Japan's most famous shrines. It is most famous for its countless torii gates running up the mountain Inarisan. It is possible to hike for hours through torii gates and small shrines in the wooded trails.

Inari is the god of rice and kitsune, or foxes, are his messengers. Many fox statues can be seen in the shrine precincts, making a very mystifying experience.

The shrine attracts millions of worshippers every year. In 2006, there were 2.7 million visitors during the 3-day New Year holiday.


How to get there

Fushimi Inari Shrine, Kyoto Prefecture
From Kyoto, take the JR Nara line to Inari station. It takes just 5 min. Fushimi Inari Shrine is a short walk from Inari Station.
