Mount Takao
About
Mount Takao is a sacred mountain an hour west of Tokyo that has been worshipped for over 1000 years. It features beautiful shrines and great hiking routes. A cable car goes up half the mountain, from which it is possible to hike further up affording great views of Mt Fuji. It is particularly attractive in the fall when the autumn foliage change the mountain red. There are 2.5 million annual visitors.
How to get there

On a clear day, you can see Mt Fuji from Takao
Take the Keio Line from Shinjuku to Takaosan (50min, 370 yen).
Alternatively, you can also take the JR Chuo line to Takao station and then transfer to the Keio line to get to Takaosan station, but it is more expensive and takes longer.
