Things to do in Luang Prabang:
1. Mount Phousi - if you're looking for an extraordinary trip, hiking Mt. Phousi would suit you best. The sunset is beautiful and breath taking. This place is better shared with your love one for a more romantic view.
2. Kuang Si Falls - located 29 kilometres south of Luang Prabang where one of the most visited places by tourists coming in the country. The waterfalls consist of a 180 foot main waterfall, and several 10-15 foot cascades from one turquoise blue pool to another. Very relaxing get-away.
3. Pak Ou Caves - this place contains magnificent group of caves that are accessible by boat, two hours from the centre of Luang Prabang. Inside the caves you will see impressive Lao style Buddha structures which have many different positions that includes meditation, teaching, peace, rain and the reclining or nirvana.The caves have more 2,500 Buddhas in all.
4. Royal Palace - this palace is used to be the house of King Sisavang Vong that later on became a national museum after his family were overthrown by the communists.
5. Wat Xieng Thong - located near the Mekong River. This temple is where Deo Van Tri, had studied as a monk in his early life, and used it as his headquarters during the sacking of Luang Phrabang.
Places to eat in Luang Prabang:
1. Malee Lao Food - famous for Lao BBQ. Located on Thanon Phu Vao St. Price
2. Night Market in Luang Prabang - you can eat grilled tasty local fish on a stick for less than $10.
3. Yoongkun Restaurant - located on Thanon Wisunalat and serves one of the most delicious salads in Luang Prabang. A meal of salad and baguette with meat inside is less than $5.
Places to stay in Luang Prabang:
1. Lao Wooden House - a petite guesthouse located in the centre of Luang Prabang. All the rooms are tastefully finished, includes a large balcony, air-conditioned and come with a fully stocked mini-bar and cable TV. Breakfast in the generous courtyard is complimentary. Rate is $35/night and if you wish to have an extra bed, it will cost you $10.
2. Luang Prabang River Lodge - located overlooking the Mekong River wrapping up the junction of the busy Sethathilath Road, which has on it the famous Hmong Market only minutes from the Royal Palace. $40/night is what you have to spend if you wish to stay in this hotel.
3. Sopha House - located on the banks of the Nam Khan River about half way down the peninsula. It maintains breathtaking views from its peaceful location and is still only minutes from the major attractions of old Luang Prabang. $12/night, quality service for a cheap price.
If you wish to go around the city, you can rent a motorcycle or a tuktuk for a day. Just be sure you have your map so you won't get lost in your trip.
