About
There is a pleasant neighbourhood park on one side, where monkeys frequently come to scavange.
The KL Golf & Country Club borders another side of the hill, and the Equestrian club frequently picks a trail up Bukit Kiara.
But the most amazing and unadvertised feature of this park is its significance to the local mountain biking community.
There is a tarmac road that goes up the south side of the hill, and at the end of the road, there are secret tracks that go into the woods. A short distance in, hidden from public view, is a well used mountain bike trail that goes all over the hill, and right up to the peak.
The trails are highly challenging, and frequently draws riders up from as far away as Singapore. It is a beautiful trail uniquely located right in the city.
Every weekend, numerous MTB groups will challenge themselves on the trails. A dedicated community of bikers also organise frequent trail maintenance to prevent the tracks from getting damaged or rutted.
The bikers tolerate the snobbish horses who trample up and down their lovingly crafted trails, but they have their own tricks to make the trails as friendly as possible to bike riders, and less so for horse riders.
Hikers are welcome. Human feet don't dig up the mud like 2-ton beasts of burden.
This trail is in constant threat from developments as every year sees another trail lost to the march of progress. But it makes everyone cherish the time they still have.
How to get there
No public transport goes this way. And what's the point of taking a cab here if you don't have a bicycle?
So, either bike here, or drive with your mountain bike in the boot or on the roof.
