About

Centro Cultural del Bosque is one of the most important cultural centers in Mexico City. Located right next to Chapultepec Forest, this center shelters a major theatrical complex in the city, where practically all of the most relevant plays of mexican theatre have been performed since the 1950's.

There are six theaters in this center, Julio Castillo, Teatro Orientación, El Granero, El Galeón, Sala Xavier Villaurrutia, and Teatro de la Danza. These theaters are run by the Mexican Federal Government through its National Institute of Fine Arts and the complex houses the National Theater Company and the National Dance Company, making it the home of some of the best professional Theater and Dance that one can watch when visiting Mexico City.

Right next to this center is the privately-run National Auditorium where you can watch great concerts and top notch musical events.

Inside the Centro Cultural del Bosque is also the National School of Folk Dance, and a group of INBA's offices. There is also an Educal bookshop (where you can buy literature, art and poetry books) and a small bistro, where you can have a coffee and a snack.

Since there are many classrooms and halls for rehearsal, it is not uncommon to find theater actors and actresses walking around the center and its plaza, named "Plaza Ángel Salas".

When you are in Mexico City and would like to watch the best theater in town, don't miss a play at Centro Cultural del Bosque. Of course, the performances are in Spanish, but it'll be a great chance to practice your language, and when one loves theater, its language is universal.

How to get there

Take the subway train 7 to Auditorium station (Metro Auditorio), and when you go out of the station walk around the corner to Centro Cultural del Bosque.

Alternatively, arrive from Reforma Avenue going downtown from Periférico and turn right on the street just before the National Auditorium. The center has two parking lots.

On weekend mornings there are plays for children of all ages, and in the afternoons (weekdays and weekends) you can watch plays for teenagers and adults. Don't forget that most theaters in Mexico City usually rest on Mondays.
