How to get there

While domestic flights are more efficient, they deprive travelers of spectacular road-level scenery—arguably one of the best (and least expected) parts of traveling in New Zealand. The major domestic airline, Air New Zealand provides connections between major towns and cities. Air New Zealand covers the country comprehensively; a number of smaller companies are also grouped under Air New Zealand Link. “Flightseeing” is another option. Smaller local companies in each area provide beautiful views from the air starting around NZ$130.
By Train :
The phenomenal TranzScenic runs between major cities and towns, providing its passengers with spectacular views of New Zealand’s ethereal landscape. Some trains have a “no-frills carriage” for backpackers with less luxurious seating, smaller windows, and cheaper fares. The TranzMetro is a convenient commuter rail service that provides limited access to destinations around Wellington. Rideline has taken over TranzMetro service in the Auckland area.
