About
Water Activities
Lake Taupo is the largest lake in Australasia (about the size of Singapore), created by a massive volcano eruption a few thousand years ago. It is world-famous for its all season trout fishing; it has an abundance of brown and rainbow trout from the rivers of Waikato, Tongariro, and Waitahanui as well as other streams flowing into it. You can also experience jet boating, whitewater rafting, kayaking, and cruising; plus various water sports such as parasailing, water skiing, and wakeboarding.
Huka Falls
The country’s best-known and highest volume waterfalls are found not far from its source in Lake Taupo. Watch the crystal blue waters rush past from several viewing points or ride to the very base of the falls aboard the Hukafalls Jet. Feast on fresh prawns at the Huka Prawn Park within the same vicinity.
Geothermal Attractions
Geothermal sites are found in Orakei Korako and Craters of the Moon, featuring a landscape of geysers, steaming craters, boiling mud pools, and some of the largest silica terraces in the world. You can also have a relaxing soak at the various hot springs in the area.
Golf
With no less than five first-class golf courses to offer, it is a golfer’s paradise.
Extreme Sports
For the more adventurous, check out freefall and tandem skydiving, bungy jumping, quad bike and helicopter rides, and more.
