About

Zoos are always a favorite with kids and this “best little zoo in the world” would be no exception. Despite the limited number and variety of animals compared to other zoos in the world, it wins your heart by allowing you to get up close and personal with them.

No need to zoom your camera as the animals come straight at you for an extreme close-up! You can be part of close encounters with cheetahs, big cats, giraffes, and red pandas; or listen to talks about other interesting animals from the simple monkey to the cotton top tamarin.

Half a day is more than enough to see the entire zoo at a leisurely pace; but check out their event schedule if there’s a particular one you’d like to see.

How to get there

Located at 200 Daniell Street, Newtown, Wellington. Go Wellington bus services are available:
No. 10 departs from the Railway Station and runs via Cuba Street.
No. 23 from Mairangi via Kelburn and Lambton Quay

Open daily (except Christmas Day) from 9:30am to 5:00pm (last entry 4:15pm).
