Cigar made in the city

The city is known as the diamond of the Segovias. The weather is unique -- cold during night, to the point of needing a jacket to go out, and hot during the day to the point of you needing beach clothes to stay comfortable.

Estelí is surrounded by forested mountains and plantations, some of which are protected as natural reserves. The land around Estelí is perfect for growing tobacco for use in cigars, and the town became a refuge for Cuban cigar makers after the Cuban Revolution in 1959. Right now, the city is one of the most important in the world for producing cigars.

In the city you can find many, restaurants, hotels and natural reserves like Miraflor, Tisey-Estanzuela, Las Brisas-Quiabuc, Tomabu, Tepesomoto and Moropotente, where you can spend your trip there.

Estelí is famous also for having both a football (soccer) and baseball professional team.

There are many activities like rappelling that you can practice specially at El Salto de la Estanzuela. Also you can spend a quiet and relaxing day, visiting the churches, the nearby communities and trying the local cuisine.

The prices of the attractions, hotels, restaurants and transportation are very inexpensive, so you won't have to worry about that.


The city is 150 kms, from the International Airport. To get there you need to take the panamerican highway. You can go by car or by bus, the last one will cost you less than $3 American dollars.

Transportation around the city is inexpensive; you can take local buses, taxis,or take a walk since it is quite safe.
