Things to do
1) Ecolodge Biological Station
The ecolodge, located at 1150m has large rooms with multiple beds of wood and is ideal for family groups. The cost per person is $ 30.00 and includes dinner, breakfast, transportation and a night walk where you can spot both the flora and fauna of the forest. You can also buy handicrafts and souvenirs like caps, shirts, books, postcards, etc..

2) Crater Tour:
Walk through the only rain forest in the Pacific of Nicaragua where you can see the local species of flora and fauna. This is a 1 km walk that is made without a guide and has a duration of almost an hour with a moderate difficulty level.

3) The Puma Tour.
The Puma Tour is designed for those groups that require more time in the Volcano and are willing to invest more effort as the tour goes through the virgin forest and by the main crater in which center you can find a fumarole emanating sulfurous gases permanently. This is a 4 km walk that is made with a guide, and has a duration of almost 4 hours with a high difficulty level.

4)The Mombacho Tour.
In this tour the visitor has the opportunity to learn about the different ecosystems within and outside the Volcano, while learning about nature.

5) The Little Tiger Tour.
This Tour is a walk up to 1,240 m, with the help of a guide and lasts for about 2 and a half hours. This is a route for those who want a difficult but short trip that leads to 2 of the best views of the whole Volcano and a view of the main crater collapsed by an avalanche in 1570. Another view is the peninsula of Asese with all the Granada islets, the Lake Cocibolca, and the highest peak of Mombacho at 1.345 meters. The difficulty is high, however there is an exit route, for those who can not complete the tour.

5) Canopy Tour and Cutirre Ranch.
Currently, this service combines horseback riding tours in the coffee plantation as well as kayaking on the lake Cocibolca and tours to the Mombacho Biological Station. Usually this is a complete package tour that include destinations in and around the city of Granada.


1. From the north, leave from Managua to the city of Granada, then continue 50 km towards Nandaime until the junction El Guanacaste.

2. Leave from Managua and go to Catarina, arriving at the same junction El Guanacaste.

3. From Rivas, pass trough Nandaime and then head to Granada, to the same junction El Guanacaste.

You can take buses in any city for less than $ 3 American dollars.
