About

Apanás lake is trapped water from the Tuma River and it’s Nicaragua’s first artificial lake. This lake is an important provider of hydroelectric power in the country and offers many different activities for the tourist as well.

The lake is near the city of Jinotega and it’s so big that it takes more than an hour to reach both sides of the lake. Since the area is well forested, the scenery is stunning.

The lake is also a great place to go hiking, horseback riding and biking to explore the many birds and different animals living there. Another activity you can do there is fishing and kayaking.

The hydroelectric power plant is just a couple of miles away from the lake, but visiting is not possible.
