Catarina is 45 Kms. from Managua, the capital. It is a small town, full of friendly and awesome people, great to spend a quiet and relaxing day.

The principal activities in this town is tourism and agriculture, so if you are visiting you can enjoy the views, the restaurants and there's even a place where you can have the most amazing view of the Laguna de Apoyo.

In this special little town you can experience the culture of the Nicaraguan people, and if you are taking souveniers back home, you should definitely come here as you can find the cutes handicrafts that are recognized all over the world and that now all the central American countries are making and selling as well.

Things to do
In catarina you can have fun doing these activities:
1. Having lunch while enjoying the amazing views of the town and the lagoon.
2. Have fun during the many activities all year long, like religious processions, most commonly on January.
3. Take a walk down the few streets of the town. It is a perfectly safe to do this activities and there usually many people doing this between tourist and locals, buying plants, handicrafts, traditional candy, plants and even furniture that is specially made there.
4. You can also visit the many recreation ranches or the couple of resorts where kids and adults can have fun.
5. Take tours of fun day activities at the lagoon that the local offers.
6. If you are looking for a hotel to stay, you can find many options that would certainly make you happy, while adults relax at the pool or at the lagoon; kids can enjoy also playing games around in the zone in a safe environment.

Weather
The weather is usually tropical, but sometimes can get rainy during the winter and most of the time is windy due to the closeness of the lagoon, so you should take comfortable clothes and maybe some snickers because there are many steps around.


To get there you can take a bus from any city to Masaya and tell the driver to leave you close to Catarina. The cost is an average of an american dollar.

If you are going on your own car, you have to take the panamerican high way down to Masaya and then turn right in the intersections where there the Catarina sign. Is really easy to get there and it would take you about 30 minutes depending on the traffic, because this hight way is one of the most used in the country.
