Concepcion Volcano, Isla de Ometepe

The Ometepe Island is located on the waters of the Lake Nicaragua. The island consists of 2 volcanoes connected by a narrow strip of land. Some of the thing you can do there are:

1. Hiking down the island where you will see the banana and coffee plantations.

2. Exploring the 2 volcanoes: Maderas and Concepción, by foot or by horse. The Concepción Volcano is over 1500 meters high and is a beautiful sight to see. On your trek up the Madera Volcano you can even see stones that have writings from ancient civilizations, similar to Egyptian hieroglyphics or the Rosetta Stone, and you may see some monkies.

3. Viewing thousands of birds like urracas and other wildlife that makes its home there.

4. Ecological Walks at Charco verde. This ecological area prevents any further growth and development, so you can be sure you won't see much infrastructure besides small hostels.

5. All kinds of water sports, like: fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, kite surfing, boat riding and swimming.

The Lake Nicaragua is the only freshwater lake in the world which contains sharks so beware of them while swimming.

It really is an amazing place to visist, the cuture, the sites and views are the best of the best in the world, you can't compare this to anything and it is amazing how many things you can do there, you will need more tha 1 visit there to really explore the place.

The hostels, food and attractions are inexpensive, the weather is like a tropical wonder and you will definitely need to bring comfortable clothes and swiming, climbing and hiking gear.


You have to get to Rivas o Granada, either by a bus or by taking your own car on the panamerican High way, and then you have to take a ferry.

The whole trip will take you about 2 hours.
