Also known as “The Rock,” this rocky island fortress stands as a memorial for the heroism of Filipino and American soldiers who bravely held their ground during WWII. Strategically located at the entrance of Manila Bay, it was the last bastion of defense against overwhelming Japanese forces; it tragically fell but was recaptured by Gen. MacArthur in 1945.

History buffs would be keen on exploring the numerous big gun emplacements, building ruins, and tunnels around the former battlegrounds. The Light and Sound Show at Malinta Tunnel – the bomb-proof headquarters running through the island - enables you to relive the whole Corregidor saga. The island also offers scenic views of its natural surroundings with a great vantage point for the sunrise/sunset on its horizon.

Several guided tours are available for a day trip or longer (with overnight accommodation at the Corregidor Hotel). Interestingly, as the island has claimed many lives, it is rife with haunted stories as well.


Ferryboat operated by Sun Cruises, departs from the CCP terminal in Manila daily at 8:00am and arrives in Corregidor in little over an hour. Their day tour includes roundtrip ferryboat transfers, shrine and terminal fees, guided island tour via tranvia bus, and buffet lunch.
