About
Chocolate Hills
The main attraction of the island is the Chocolate Hills, a rolling terrain of thousands of cone-shaped mounds. The natural limestone hills turn minty chocolate on rainy days, and chocolate-brown during summer times, hencethe name. Two viewing complexes have been built for viewing the Chocolate Hills: one in the town of Carmen, the Chocolate Hills Complex, and another one in Sabayan, the Sagbayan Peak. It has proposed for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List and is also nominated as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
Beaches
Bohol is also known for its pristine white beaches at a little island called Panglao. Here, people who love the beach but want a safe haven for their kids can visit Dumaluan Beach, while those who love to go snorkeling and diving can find the beaches in the Alona area quite stimulating.
Loboc River Cruises
Visitors can also enjoy a sumptuous local buffet while being serenaded by local choirs on the Loboc River Cruises. The cruise ends at Niludhan Falls, a network of low falls.
Panglao Island
Also found here is Panglao Island, which is enlisted as one of the top ten diving location in the world. Panglao is made of Maribojoc limestone, the youngest of the limestone units found in the western area of Bohol. About 250 new species of crustaceans and 2500 new species of mollusks were found around the island. The discovery was the work of the Panglao Marine Biodiversity Project. It is claimed that Panglao alone has more marine biodiversity than Japan and the Mediterranean Sea.
Historical Sites
Historical sites are also abundant in this island - two significant sites of the historic Blood Compact can be found: one is in Tagbilaran City and another one in its neighboring town which features costumes and props for the visitors to "become" the Blood Compact participants.
Ziplining
Bohol is also one of the only three places in the Philippines where ziplining is offered. Here, one can experience swinging across a deep ravine, suspended on a string from the cliffs. The facility in the town of Danao also offer rappelling.
Finally, be on the lookout for tarsiers, a tiny mammal about the size of a human fist. It is known for having the largest eyes of any mammal.
