About
It has withstood all calamities both natural and man-made like how the natives burned the mansion during the height of the Second World War to prevent the Japanese from using the house as their headquarters. Burning for more than three days, the mansion's "skeleton" is still intact, thanks to its material of high end A-grade mixture of concrete.
The mansion of Don Mariano is of Italian architecture with lavish and intricate designs - truly a sugar magnate's home. Located in the middle of a sugarcane plantation, the mansion has a well manicured lawn with its famous 4-tiered water lily fountain.

How to get there
-From Manila ( the capital of the Philippines) or Cebu, get a direct domestic flight to Bacolod City; travel time is less than an hour
By jeepney
- You can hire a taxi that can bring you directly to "The Ruins" but the jeepney, a common mode of transportation in the Philipines is cheaper.
- In Bacolod City, take a jeepney with a signage " Batad-Libertad".
-Inform the driver to drop you off in "Bangga Lawson" or just tell him that you are going to "The Ruins"; they are very accommodating, so don't fret.
Tricycle or walk
- After the jeepney drops you off, you have the freedom to hire a motorcycle with a side car locally known as "tricycle" for less than $1 for a round-trip. You can make arrangement on what time you want the driver to pick you up in "The Ruins"
- "The Ruins" is 2.4 kilometers away from this spot, but based on my experience, walking to "The Ruins" made our travel more adventurous.
