Bochnia is a town on the river of Raba. It is home to 30,000 people in southern Poland and noted for the oldest salt mine in Europe beginning in 1248.

Bochnia Salt Mine is known as the oldest in the world. It has a measure of 4.5 kilometres in length and 468 metres in depth at 16 different levels. Inside there are deserted chambers shafts and passages form a so called underground town, which is now open to sightseers. The largest of the preserved chambers has been converted into a sanatorium.

The weather in Bochnia is similar to that of southern Poland in general. The climate is more continental in this region, with the summer season experiencing temperatures up to 23°C between June and August.

The town has an efficient bus service which links it to the nearby cities, particularly the airports in Krakow or Tarnow.
