Lisbon or Lisboa as called by others is the capital of Portugal and the one of the rare Western European cities that faces the ocean. You will be attracted with Lisbon’s charm as the whole city is easy going and popular for tourists coming for a visit.

There are three things that you need to understand about Lisbon. Be sure to familiarize yourself as it will help your travel and tour easy.

1. Lisboa Ask Me Centre – this will assist you in finding accommodation, give you advices on where to go and what to do. They are open every day from 9am – 8pm. For more information, call +351 (21) 031 2815.

2. Ask Me Lisboa Kiosks – located around the Rossio district and your quick link regarding the city. You can acquire copies of their maps and other brochures about the Lisbon.

3. Lisboa Card – this will entitle you to use all public transport in the city for free. You can also get a discount when you visit museums, galleries and other tourist attractions. The card is available in different denominations.
- €14.85 for adult and €7.50 for child. Good for 24 hours.
- €25.50 for adult and €12.75 for child. Good for 24 hours.
- €31.00 for adult and €15.50 for child. Good for 72 hours.

Places to visit in Lisbon:

1. The Gulbenkian Museum – located in Avenida de Berna. The museum is created from the personal collection of Callouste Bulbenkian who has claimed many treasures that includes Egyptian artifacts, paintings of Rembrandt, Manet, Monet, Renoir and Cassat. The museum is a must see as it serves as a little oasis in the busy city of Lisbon. It is open every Tuesday-Sunday from 10am-5:45pm. To get there, take the metro going to Sao Sebastio or Praca de Espanha Stations.

2. Castelo de Sao Jorge – better known as St. George’s Castle and located in the hill of Alfama. The castle displays a great view of the Lisbon city. Tickets could be purchased at €5/pax. Open daily from 9am-9pm. For more information, call +351 218 800 620

3. Santa Justa’s Elevator – located on Rua Aurea & Rua de Santa Justa. The elevator is designed by French engineer Gustav Eiffel’s aficionado. For more information, call +351 (21) 361 3054.

4. Praca do Comercio – a splendid plaza overlooking the river. To get here take the metro going to Terreiro do Paco Station.

5. Belem – a must see place where it features the Belem Tower that can be enjoyed for 3 euros, Jeronimo’s Monastery, Padrao dos Descobrimentos with an entrance fee of 2.5 euros, Belem Cultural Centre – a place that holds extra ordinary art exhibitions that include works of art from Bernardo , Picasso, Dali, Duchamp, Magritte, Andy Warhol and many more. Belem is a wonderful place, to get there just take tram 15 to the west.

6. Ciado – the streets of history. This is an elegant place for shopping, coffee and nightlife.

7. Baixa – tour the ancient neighborhood and be enlightened with Lisbon’s history.

8. Ponte 25 de Abril – designed by the same architect of the Golden Gate in San Francisco. It connects Lisbon and the Setubal peninsula.

9. Cristo Rei – a similar Christ statue in Rio de Janeiro with the height of 100 meters opposite the Tejo River. You will enjoy the great view on top for only 4 euros.

10. Lisbon Botanical Garden – located in Rua de Escola Politencia. The garden is one of the oldest gardens in Europe. The 10 acre garden is open daily from 9am-8pm.

11. Jardim Zoologico – located on Estrada De Benfiea. The zoo displays a variety of exotic animals like sea lions and dolphins. Entrance is €15 and open from 10am-6pm daily.

You can do so many things in Lisbon. From dining, clubbing, sightseeing and shopping, all of these are possible. To enjoy the city, plan your trip ahead and note down the places you want to see.

Hotels are fairly priced. It all depends on what kind of room you want to rent and which place you want to stay.


How to get there

Arrive in Aeroporto de Portela which is located in between of Loures & Lisboa. It is Portugal's biggest airport.

Around the town, there are trams, buses and taxis available. Getting around is easy and transportation is cheap. To avoid being over priced, get your money ready and know the local prices before riding or buying anything.
