St. Andrew Cathedral

About

St. Andrew Cathedral is a church that I attended since I was young till recently when I backslide from my faith. I decided to add this location into one of the attractions is because it is a really beautiful church that people tend to walk past it. When my friends from overseas are in town, they ask me what is the building and often they mistaken it for being a Catholic church which is in fact, an Anglican church.

The Cathedral is situated at City Hall the 'center' of the Singapore. You can see the Catherdral through the trees that are planted around it and there is a slight air of mystery to the place. I was told that the site occupied by the Cathedral was expressly reserved in 1823 for a church by Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of Singapore. In 1852, it was closed after being struck twice by lightning and declared unsafe

St. Andrew Cathedral is part of my life because my ancestors attends Sunday service there and it has been going on for generations. I graduated from St. Hilda's Secondary and the school is considered to be one of the education branches of the Anglican church.

The interior of the Cathedral never fails to mesmerize me and I am sure it will do the same to you too. In 2005, they have added a new extension to the Cathedral so now it basically holds the past and the present as the contrast of the area is rather obvious.
