Attractions in Johannesburg:
Johannesburg Planetarium – located on Yale Road, Entrance 10, University of the Witwatersrand, Milner Park. Entrance fee is at R16-R25, depending on the kind of show they have.
Mandela Family Museum – located on Orlando West, Soweto. This is Nelson Mandela’s first house.
Apartheid Museum – located alongside the Gold Reef City and a must see museum where you will be moved by Africa’s chaotic past and present.
Sci-Bono Discovery Centre – located at Electric Workshop building corner Miriam Makeba and President St. Newton. This is open from 9am-5pm during weekdays and 9am-4:30pm during weekends. Entrance fee is at R20 for adults and R10 or children.
South African National Museum of Military History – located on Erlswold Way, Saxonwold, just next to the Johannesburg Zoo. This museum displays military hardware from World War II. A mini-shop is available for those who want to purchase genuine and reproduced vintage military equipment. Entrance fee is R20.
Gold Reef City – located on Northern Parkway, Ormonde. Visitors get a good grip of what gold mining is all about and they can experience how hard to mine underground. This amusement park also has a casino inside so you will definitely enjoy you visit.
Johannesburg also has a wide range of restaurants that offers good food. Try the following:
Mezzaluna – located at 9a 7th Avenue. They serve the most marvellous Mediterranean food that includes springbok Carpaccio, ostrich fillet and Frangelica chocolate mousse.
Melrose Arch – this is the place for high-end restaurants and nightclubs.
Dawaat – one of the best restaurants and the most expensive. The food you eat suites the price you pay.
