Stockholm is one of the established cities in Europe though it may not be the oldest in Sweden. The climate has fairly mild temperatures. Planning your visit will give you an advantage in visiting places as they have four seasons in a year.
Tourists could take an advantage of the Stockholm Tourist Centre, where you can get all the vital information about the city. Tickets to museums and sightseeing tours are also available here. They are open daily from 9am-5pm.
Stockholm has many impressive tourist attractions where visitors can get close contact. They have wide range of museums and buildings to explore, picturesque old towns and old house dating back to the medieval times.
Must see places in Stockholm.
1. Old Town – the heart of history in Stockholm, it houses the Riddarholmskyrkan which is a beautifully preserved medieval church. If you are coming from T Gamla Stan Station, the old town could be reached by foot.
2. The Stockholm Archipelago – 80 kilometres east of the city you will find one of the world’s most amazing archipelagos that contain 24,000 islands, islets and rocks. To enjoy the archipelago; you can book an island-hopping tour that will entitle you for a 16-days free visit.
3. The Royal Palace –located on the east side of the Old Town. The Royal Palace houses The Royal Apartments, Tre Kronor Museum, the Treasury and Gustav III’s Museum of Antiquities. The place is open to public and ticket is available at 70SEK/pax. They are open daily from 10am-4pm.
4. Stockholm City Hall – better known as Stadshuset. The city hall is the yearly place where Nobel Prize Banquet takes place. There are guided tours daily that will take you to the halls impressive rooms. Take bus 3 & 62 going to the place.
5. Stockholm Public Library – if you love books, this library would be perfect for you! This is designed by the famous Swedish architect Erik Gunnar Asplund in 1928, where he made the interior of the main hall a spectacular cylinder-shape. There are three floors of bookshelves with circular walls and on the cliff; you will be able to see the Observatory.
6. Globe – located south of Sodermalm. The Globe is the world’s largest spherical building with 16,000 seats. There are group tours organized daily for 80SEK/pax.
7. Stockholm Cathedral – also known as the Storkyrkan. It is the oldest church in Gamla Stan and the seat of the Church of Sweden bishop of Stockholm. They are open daily from 9am-6pm with free entrance. Every Thursday, guided tours are organized for tourists who want to see the church. For more details, contact +46 (8) 7233016.
8. Riddarholmen Church – considered as Sweden’s most beautiful church. Inside you will find many Swedish regents buried that includes Gustavus Adolphus and Charles XII. Entrance is 30SEK for adults and children ages 7-18 can come for only 10SEK. They are open daily from 10am-5pm.
9. German Church – officially known as Sankta Gertrud. This is considered as the home of the first German-speaking parish outside Germany. You will find the baroque interiors astonishing with large windows and white vaults. Sunday service is at 11am and the church is open for visitors’ everyday from 9:30-11:30am and from 12pm-4pm every Saturday and Sunday. For more details, contact +46 (8) 4111188.
10. Klara kyrka – located very close to Sergels Torg square. This is the fifth highest building in Sweden and the second highest in Scandinavia for having a 16 metre steeple. Open daily from 10am-5pm. For more details, contact +46 (8) 7233031.
11. Katarina kyrka – also known as the Church of Catherine which is named after the Princess Catherine, who is the mother of King Charles X of Sweden. Inside the church, you will find notable persons buried that includes the former Foreign Minister Anna Lindh. They are open from 11am-5pm every Monday-Friday and 10am-5pm every Saturday and Sunday. 12. Adolf Frederiks kyrka – named after King Adolf Frederik. Inside the church a monument dedicated to the great philosopher Cartesius could be found. They are open to the public from Monday-Sunday. For more details, contact +46 (8) 207076.
13. Bromma kyrka – one of the oldest church in Stockholm and voted to be the most beautiful in the city. Inside you will find medieval paintings dated back in the 15th century. For more details, contact +46 (8) 373448.
14. Skogskyrkogarden – known as the Woodland Cemetary. Built by Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Lewerentz. It houses famous work of arts from Swedish artists like Sven Erixson, Carl Milles and Otto Skold. Being the second largest cemetery in Sweden, Skogskykorgarden is a must see place.
15. Grona Lund – located in Lilla Allmanna Grand 9. Stockholm’s favourite amusement park that contains great attractions and games. Entrance fee is 60SEK for adults and could go up to 120SEK from 6pm. Rides range from 20SEK-60SEK for single tickets and a day pass could be acquired for 260SEK. When going to Grona Lund, take Bus 44 or 47.
16. Junibacken – located on the island of Djurgarden and a favourite attraction for children. Admission is 110SEK for adults and children ages 3-15 is 95SEK. They are open daily from 9am-6pm.
17. Vasa Museum – this is a must see museum for it’s the only kind in the world. Why? Because it’s the original Vasa warship that sunk in 1628. It’s been retrieved from the waters and now being preserved. Admission is 80SEK for adults and free for children up to 17. For more details, contact +46 (8) 51954800.
18. Skansen – this is the first open-air museum in the world and a known zoological garden with Nordic fauna. It also features 150 historic buildings and costumes. With the size of 700 metres across and steep slopes, you have to be prepared for long walks. Also, inside you will find an aquarium which is not included with the admissions fee. This place is a wonderful get away for families and first time visitors, perfect in exploring wildlife and nature. Entrance is 100SEK for adults and 75SEK if you want to visit the Aquarium.
19. Museum of National Antiquities – a good place to study history, Vikings and other that contributes to Sweden’s rich culture. The Gold Room in the museum contains gold treasures from the Bronze age till 16th century. Open every Tuesday-Sunday from 11am-8pm.
20. National Museum – houses classical art pieces by Rembrandt, Rubens, Goya, Renoir, Degas and Gaugin. Situated in a beautiful 19th century building, this museum shouldn’t be out of your list. Open every Tuesday-Sunday from 11am-8pm. Admission is 90SEK.

How to get there
Taxis – around 100SEK for a trip.
Buses – operates 24 hrs and tickets are available on the bus.
Subway – most efficient means of traveling. With over 100 stations and closing at 1am, this will surely be helpful with your travel.
Bikes – there are several bike rental companies in town that ranges from 150SEK-220SEK for a pass.
