About

Bangkok, Thailand is a good place for shopping and there is a lot of things to do there. I have been traveling to Bangkok almost every year for the past 12 years and it never gets boring for me.

There's two hotels that I would recommend staying when you are in Bangkok. Pathumwan Princess Bangkok and Baiyoke Sky Hotel which is the tallest hotel in Bangkok. Both hotel has got great services and are situated in the busiest shopping district.

Pathumwan Princess Bangkok is situated next to a shopping center called Mahboonkrong(MBK) which is 6 level high and you can basically get anything and everything there. From MBK you can make your way to Siam Discovery Center and Siam Paragon by the bridge under their city train service - BTS. All within walking distance of about 5 minutes. On the second level of MBK, a bridge links to you another section of shopping area that is just opposite Siam Discovery Center and Siam Paragon. If you walk the streets in the later evening, you will get to see many students setting up roadside stalls selling bags, accessories and other things.

If you are staying at Baiyoke Sky Hotel, the area around it are mainly wholesale shopping. The items are cheaper if you buy from 3 pieces and above so it is great if you are intending on doing a small business back in your country. I usually buy t-shirts and accessories from that area and stock up for myself because it is dirt cheap.

The food are amazing. I love the roadside stalls and do try the corns, fried chicken wings and their milk tea. It is delicious and will bound for you wanting more!

The weather in Bangkok can get somewhat humid so best way to dress is in t-shirts and shorts and remember to wear a comfortable pair of footwear if you are planning to do a lot of walking.

How to get there

There are many international flights to Bangkok and from the airport, you can take a taxi or arrange for a hotel transport via the hotel website which will get you to the hotel that you are staying at. It is basically about 30 minutes ride from the airport to the town area.

Transportation-wise in the town area I would recommend walking if the distance is walkable because there are many things to see. If you plan on take a taxi, make sure you hop into one that is going by the meter rate and not a rate that the taxi driver gives you. Going my meter is definitely cheaper and they will usually give you a higher price quote if not my meter.
