About
Chiang Rai is in the northern most tip of Thailand, in the country’s most mountainous rural region. It’s well-liked for its scenic charming beauty. More importantly, it is at the gateway of the Golden Triangle, between two neighboring countries Laos and Burma.
The Dusit Island Resort is the oldest and the best known hotel in Chiang Rai which is situated in the heart of the city and on a separate island. At the Karen Ruammitr village, you can ride by elephants around.
The homes of the villages already project television antennas and cable dishes. There are small shops run by the villagers, and you will be delighted by the handicraft and the hand woven cotton cloths that this region is so noted for. The area is also known for Chang coffee and beer.
Thanks to the mountains, Chiang Rai has a large range of teas and coffees, including the Doi Mae Salong and the oolong tea and the Wawee and Doi tung coffee.
The next tourist stopper spot are the DoTung Hills, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Chiang Rai. It’s a long scenic drive, as you will pass through rice fields and strawberry plantations. Fresh fruits are also sold on the roadside, including pineapples, strawberries and also the local strawberry wine. As you climb up hill, you will pass though the trickling waterfalls, rubber and lychee trees and pineapple plantations.
On Saturday nights one can visit the Walking Street. This is a replica of Bangkok’s night market, except the street is much longer. Since all the hotels provide pick up facilities, these markets are a must do. Moreover, tuk-tuks are always available if want to have a fun ride to your hotel.
Near the clock tower there are varied bars and clubs with the discotheques, with Income Hotel being the most fashionable.
For adventurous people, there are mountain biking, trekking and rafting to enthrall your senses.
