Ever see Citizen Kane? This is where it was filmed. It's a real live castle, here in a country just over 200 years old. Hearst Castle was built by Mr. Hearst, a local troubled media tycoon. His place was a bit like the Playboy Mansion...he had a grotto, all kinds of wild animals, and invited celebrities to hang out all the time. Really inside though, he was a lonely lonely man.

Doesn't matter to you as a tourist. Hearst Castle overlooks arguably the most picturesque stretch of the Pacific Ocean. Inside, the creator spared no expense in marble and design. And you as a tourist can see it all.
