About
Next to the harbor, you will find hundreds of sea lions sleeping on wooden crates. Tourists watch the sea lions scramble among themselves for "the best sleeping spot" on the crates. The sea lions seem to be longtime residents of the area.
You will also find great views of Alcatraz Island. Ship cruises depart frequently for tours of the island, along with nearby Angel Island (great for a dayhike).
Some attractions include an aquarium, rentable bikes, and the Blue & Gold Fleet ships.
This area is also known as Fisherman's Wharf.

How to get there

There are parking lots in the area, but there is a fee. One local tip is to park in a parking area at the end of Van Ness avenue -- this area is free for up to 4 hours.
For public transportation, see the official website for details.
