About

Pier 39 is a tourist hotspot and vibrant harbortown in San Francisco. You can find street musicians and performers, tons of crabs for sale, clam chowder, and boat trips out to Alcatraz Island. There are also many shops and restaurants.

Next to the harbor, you will find hundreds of sea lions sleeping on wooden crates. Tourists watch the sea lions scramble among themselves for "the best sleeping spot" on the crates. The sea lions seem to be longtime residents of the area.

You will also find great views of Alcatraz Island. Ship cruises depart frequently for tours of the island, along with nearby Angel Island (great for a dayhike).

Some attractions include an aquarium, rentable bikes, and the Blue & Gold Fleet ships.

This area is also known as Fisherman's Wharf.
