Hengistbury Head, Bournemouth

About

Hengisbury Head is a sandstone headland which lies between the towns of Bournemouth and Christchurch, just South of Christchurch Harbour. The site boasts a rich heritage of human occupation, most famously as an iron age fort, the remains of which can still be seen today.

The resident fauna is protected by a small nature reserve, with a high population of amphibious wildlife, and a seasonal migratory population of skylarks. Educational signs have been erected to encourage enthusiasts to spot and identify the various species that can be found here.

For the more adventurous, Hengistbury Head is home to its own sailing club, which services Christchurch Harbour with plenty of water sport activities.

How to get there

From Bournemouth town, follow the coastal path to the East, along the sea front.

From Southbourne, 'Broadway' leads directly to the headland.

From Chrstchurch, water taxis can be taken from Mudeford Quay.
