The Keep

Entrance to the Castle

An 11th Century castle in the heart of Cardiff's downtown, Cardiff Castle is a must-see for any South Wales tourist. The castle is comprised of the palace, the keep, the towers, the roman walls (with hidden tunnels inside), and a beautiful courtyard where visitors relax in the sun and children play cricket. A gift shop and snack bar are also on site.

Buy your tickets in the gift shop prior to entering. There are two classes of ticket available:

- The Essential Ticket includes admittance to most areas on the grounds and a self-guided audio tour.
Prices:
Adult - £8.95
Child (5-16 years) - £6.35
Senior / Student - £7.50

- The Premium Tour Ticket adds on admittance to a few more rooms, with a 50-minute guided tour by castle staff.
Prices:
Adult - £11.95
Child (5-16 years) - £8.50
Senior / Student - £9.95

A family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children is also available, although it is not listed with the ticket prices, so you must ask the staff specifically for the family ticket.

Your free audio guide can be picked up in the other gift shop inside the grounds. Toilets are also located inside this gift shop / snack bar.

Plan on at least an hour or two in order to get through all of the areas of the grounds, more if you have children who will want to run through the secret tunnels or climb the windy stairs to the Keep several times.


The Cardiff Hop On Hop Off bus has a stop directly in front of the castle. If driving, take the A470 to downtown Cardiff and look for signs to Cardiff Castle (the signs are easily visible and frequently placed).
