About
The structure itself has been rebuilt and rebuilt over 1500 years at least. Speculation on the reason it was built range from human sacrifice to astronomy. Some of the new studies suggest that on top of serving as an astronomical observatory, or as a religious site Stonehenge also served as a burial ground from its earliest beginnings. Free audio guides on location will teach you more about the area.
Stonehenge was created by a culture with no written language. There is little or no evidence for the construction techniques used by the Stonehenge builders, one of many aspects of Stonehenge that remain the subject of debate. This multiplicity of theories is often called the "mystery of Stonehenge".
Stonehenge is the perfect tourist destination, rich with culture & history. Wiltshire also boasts quite a number of other henge's in the area. The perfect place to visit, to enjoy a day filled with prehistoric beauty.
Several things you probably didn't know:
- Stonehenge is actually right next to a highway. You can see the structure through the fence.
-To enhance the mystery of Stonehenge, there are currently constructions underway to put the adjacent highway underground through a tunnel.
- Stonehenge is in a field of sheep and grass, an area that used to be a forest.
