One of the major cities in Venezuela, Maracaibo is the capital of Zulia State, located in the northeastern part of the country. It's major business is oil. Lake Maracaibo is home of hundreds of oil towers, which makes the state one of the main generators of oil in the country.

Maracaibo's population is over 2.5 million and it's a major industrial and cosmopolitan city, with a wide variety of businesses, TV and radio stations, restaurants, cafes, bars, hotels and diverse entertainment.

One of the main attractions that takes place every year around November 18th, is day of the "Virgen de la Chiquinquira" or Maracaibo's religious icon. A big fair takes place "Feria de la Chinita", with latin american artists coming to the city, bullfights, rodeo and a wide variety of cultural venues.

"Hotel Del Lago" and "Hotel Maruma" are, among others, highly rated hotels where visitors can enjoy the night.


Maracaibo has a major international airport, with fights that come and go from Miami, USA. Maracaibo can also be reached from Caracas' airport (Venezuela's largest airport).

Once there, the best way to go from place to place is by taxi or rental car.
